Hiking Festival reveals the charms of Alcoutim and Sanlúcar do Guadiana

As part of the Algarve Walking Season, this is the first of three walking festivals that take place throughout the year in the region.

Alcoutim and Sanlúcar, the villages located face to face on both banks of the Guadiana River, become the epicenter of walks in the southwestern region of the Iberian Peninsula and Europe, during the three days of the Hiking Festival, which runs from the 8th to the 10th of March.

The sixth edition, which will be organized by the Municipality of Alcoutim, with the collaboration of the Ayuntamiento de Sanlúcar de Guadiana, integrates the Algarve Walking Season, supported by Turismo de Portugal and Turismo do Algarve, having as promoter the QRER Cooperative and as partner to Almargem Association.

This is the first of three hiking festivals, which take place throughout the year in the Algarve, once again growing in terms of participants, collaborators and unique experiences in the territory.

From the Serra do Caldeirão to the Guadiana River, and enhancing the natural, cultural, historical, gastronomic and ethnographic heritage, Alcoutim and Sanlúcar de Guadiana offer three days of activities that, in a sustainable way, captivate the visitor.

The activities make known the charms of the region with walks associated with good food, the charms of the landscape, agro-pastoral activities, astronomy, traditional arts, simply letting yourself go… «Here winter already gives the air of spring !», guarantee the promoters.

O Alcoutim Hiking Festival it proposes 17 themed walks and five workshops: Taipas Beekeeping Landscapes, On the Route of the Flavors of the Pig, Nature Observation Trail, Manufacture of Canivetes in Empreita or Pastor's Lighters. But much more is proposed for the three days of the Festival.

The walks take place throughout the municipality of Alcoutim and in Sanlúcar de Guadiana, with different levels of difficulty, and are carried out by guides knowledgeable in the territory, who frame the different themes proposed.

«The proposals presented are more than walks, they are an experience that allows participants to get to know the landscape, a bit of the history of the region, culturally interesting spaces/monuments, the opportunity to meet places and “people”, and sometimes even some of the places where you can taste the typical gastronomy of the region», adds the Chamber of Alcoutim in a press release.

For the sixth consecutive year, the Municipality «intends to highlight, once again, the potential of Alcoutim as a region of excellence for the practice of nature walks in conjunction with diversified natural, historical, gastronomic and cultural heritage».

Participation is subject to prior registration that must be carried out at the online form by clicking here.
