Inclusive Portimão holidays begin at Carnival

The second edition of FICA – Inclusive Holidays for the Algarve Community will be extended to all periods of school interruption

The new season of FICA - Inclusive Holidays for the Algarve Community will start at Carnival and provide a diversified program of activities for children and young people with multiple disabilities.

The Teia d'Impulsos association and the Portimão City Council once again joined forces, after the success achieved in 2018, with the 1st edition of FICA. In 2019, the initiative “emerges not only in a context of school holidays but also in terms of leisure time, offering a complementary response to the school institution with four periods of activities already scheduled: 4th to 6th March; April 8th to 22nd; 10th of June to 15th of September and from 15th to 30th of December”, according to the municipality of Portimo.

Those interested in participating in the summer camp that will take place next week can do so by filling out the online form, available at this link.

The activities will take place between the 4th and the 6th, at Espaço Raiz-Teia d'Impulsos, between 9:00 am and 16:00 pm. The program includes activities in dance, plastic expression, cooking and vegetable gardens with the collaboration of instructors and the support of the Teia d'Impulsos team, friends and volunteers.

With this program, it is intended to promote the inclusion, integration and occupation of children and young people with disabilities in society, in full exercise of their citizenship.

«The Inclusive Holidays for the Algarve Community project emerged in 2018 as a result of various desires and sensitivities and multiplied ambitions, smiles, experiences and many joys among all the young people who participated in the first summer and Christmas holiday camps where, despite their differences, they had the opportunity to dance, do theater, yoga and meditation, pottery, sailing, going to the hairdresser, walking and even ice skating», described the Portimão Chamber.

In addition to its recreational, sporting and cultural value, this project «with unique and innovative characteristics in the Algarve, is distinguished by its social and pedagogical character and fills a gap in organization and social response that exists in terms of the offer of specialized holiday programs for children and young people with special needs”.
