Albufeira will be the «capital of reading in the Algarve»

Albufeira hosts, on April 2nd, the inter-municipal phase of the 13th National Reading Competition.

The session, which will take place at the Municipal Auditorium, will make Albufeira the «reading capital of the Algarve», according to the City Council.

However, on the 22nd of February, the municipal phase of the National Reading Competition was held, which brought together 26 students from the three groups of schools in the municipality of Albufeira, involving all levels of education, from the 1st cycle to secondary education.

The municipal phase had two moments: a written test on the work “O Secret do Rio”, by Miguel Sousa Tavares, for 1st cycle students and, in a second moment, an oral test for all participants.

In the 1st cycle, pre-selected texts of the aforementioned work were read and, for the other levels of education, students presented a reading of their choice.

In this phase, 12 winners were selected who will represent Albufeira in the Intermunicipal Phase: from the 1st cycle, Tomás Cevadinha, from EB1 Vale Carro, Carolina Vasco, from EBI de Paderne and Tiago Baptista, from EB1 Vale Pedras; the 2nd cycle winners were Margarida Vicente, from EB2,3 Dom Martim Fernandes, David Português, from EB2,3 Professora Diamantina Negrão, and Laura Cabrita, from EB2, 3 Dr. Francisco Cabrita.

In the 3rd cycle, Henrique Monteiro, from EBI Paderne, Joana Costa, from EB2,3 Dom Martim Fernandes, and Ana Santos from Albufeira Basic and Secondary School (EBSA) were also selected.

In terms of secondary education, Ana Catarina Silva and Susana Correia, from Escola Secundária de Albufeira, and João Bazelga, from EBSA, won.

The jury was made up of Anabela Baptista (Inter-Council Coordinator of the School Libraries Network), Miguel Salvado (Lídia Jorge Municipal Library) and Roberto Leandro (Writer). Books and some gifts were offered to the competitors, as well as certificates to all and reading passports to the winners of this stage.
