Loulé has already selected students for the intercity phase of the National Reading Competition

Inter-municipal phase takes place on April 2, in Albufeira

Loulé has already selected the students who will represent the municipality in the intercity phase of the 13th edition of the National Reading Competition. Those selected were chosen during the municipal stage that took place this Monday, February 18, at the Municipal Library of Loulé.

Regarding the 1st cycle, Miguel Capitão-Mor (4th year, EB1 Mãe Soberana School – Loulé), Gonçalo Relvas (4th year, EB1 School of Fonte Santa – Quarteira) and Lucas Xavier (4th year, EB1 School of Quarteira) were the ones selected.

Maria Inês Lima (6th year, School EB2,3 Padre João Coelho Cabanita – Loulé), Isabel Pereira (5th year, Colégio Internacional de Vilamoura) and Ana Margarida Cerqueira (6th year, School EB2,3 Engº Duarte Pacheco – Loulé) will represent the municipality of Loulé in the inter-municipal phase of this competition.

In the 3rd Cycle, Madalena Brito (9th year, Vilamoura International College), Paulo Coelho (9th year, EB2,3 School Prof. Dr. Aníbal Cavaco Silva – Boliqueime) and Érica Viegas Lourenço (9th year, EB2 School) 3 Prof. Sebastião Teixeira – Salir) and, in secondary school, Carolina Graça (10th year, Vilamoura International College), Maria Inês Papa (11th year, Vilamoura International College) and Lourenço
Albuquerque (11th grade, Loulé Secondary School).

In the year that celebrates the 100th birthday of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, patron of the Municipal Library of Loulé, works by this writer were selected to be worked on by the contestants: “The three kings of the East”, for the 1st Cycle, “A Menina of the sea”, for the 2nd Cycle, “Stories of the land and the sea”, for the 3rd Cycle, and “Four scattered tales”, for the Secondary.

In total, 28 students participated in the municipal phase, previously selected in the schools phase. 12 students were selected to advance to the next stage.

The jury was made up of Ana Farrajota (coordinator of the School Libraries Network), Casimiro de Brito (writer) and Rita Moreira (coordinator of the Municipal Library of Loulé).

All students received certificates of participation. Those selected, in addition to a tabulation certificate, were awarded several books, as well as a gift certificate to be collected at a bookstore.

The inter-municipal phase of the 13th National Reading Competition, which will bring together representatives from the 16 Algarve municipalities, will take place in Albufeira, on 2 April, the date on which the International Children's Book Day is celebrated.
