Castro Marim recovers nursing service in the Mobile Unit

The Castro-Marinense Mobile Health Unit will once again have a nurse, who will join the doctors who were already in the service.

The Mobile Health Unit (UMS) of Castro Marim will have, in addition to a doctor, a permanent nurse, as of tomorrow, Friday.

The Chamber of Castro Marim renewed the contract with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Castro Marim, «allowing the Mobile Health Unit to resume the provision of medical and nursing care within the county, starting tomorrow, March 1st» .

The cooperation between these two entities had already allowed «that, since June 2018, the operation of the UMS resumed, although without a nursing service, after an interruption of six months, resulting from the disapproval of proposals presented at the city council», recalls the Chamber of Castro Marim.

The Mobile Health Unit was, moreover, at the center of one of several wars between the PSD minority executive and the opposition, namely the PS.

The agreement was renewed, through public contracting, «with the permanent availability of the service's doctors, Dr. Isa Frazoa and Dr. Suzana Valssassina, who have been following this project since its inception, now permanently join the services of nurse Joaquim Seabra».

«UMS de Castro Marim now also has a new partner, the Castro Marim Family Health Unit, which, through the availability of the Regional Health Administration (ARS), now provides medical service for three hours a week, in date still to be defined, and six hours per week of nursing service», added the municipality.

The coordinator of the Mobile unit, Isa Frazoa, is also developing "an ambitious project", which "consists of working and improving the autonomy of the elderly, namely in the context of preventing falls, which are responsible for 90% of fractures in the body. femur in this age group, cause of a high morbidity and mortality rate in the third age».

“Contributing to these data will also be the fact that this pathology must be operated within 48 hours, an urgency that is not consistent with the shortage of orthopedic doctors at the Hospital de Faro, where, according to the data collected by the UMS, the surgeries take more than a month, with the negative consequences that come with it,” added the Chamber.

The Castro Marim Mobile Unit daily travels through a hundred scattered and isolated villages within the municipality of Castro Marim, providing medical care to the homes of a more vulnerable and fragile population, promoting a more assiduous and closer monitoring, with more time for assessment of the clinical situation, allowing the patient to be integrated into their home, family and social reality.

More than a vehicle, the UMS de Castro Marim, the result of the ARS application «Mobile Health Units of Proximity» is a unique project, distinct from the others in the region, as it provides such a complete service and is fully operational.
