Ana Cabecinha and Jorge Braz, national futsal selector, are this year's special guests at the Albufeira Sport Gala, which is scheduled for February 22, at 21 pm, at the Albufeira Sports Pavilion.
The gala, which this year will be dedicated to Fair Play, will once again be «dressed up to receive athletes, coaches and directors of the municipality's sports associations and clubs that stood out in the 2018/2019 season», says the City Council of Albufeira
Of the approximately 4 sports in the municipality, «some will be honored for their titles and achievements. The Sport Gala is dedicated to Albufeira's sports practitioners, but also to the athletes' coaches and families», adds the local authority.
About the «special guests», the Municipality highlights Ana Cabecinha, athlete of the Clube Oriental de Pechão, as «a glorious personality in what concerns Athletics/Marcha, holder of the best marks in Olympic distances and records in Portugal».
The athlete has represented Portugal's national team 34 times in international competitions, has three appearances at the Olympic Games, in Beijing in 2008, London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
In total, Ana Cabecinha won 187 Regional Titles (116 Individual and 71 Collective), 82 National Titles (59 Individual and 23 Collective) and 10 International Medals. The Municipality of Albufeira also highlights the 21 Absolute National titles in Covered Track, Road and Outdoor Track.
Jorge Braz is the current national coach and European Futsal Champion in 2017. Jorge Braz was born on August 25, 1972, in Edmonton (Canada). He made his debut as national futsal coach on the 23rd of September 2003, against Azerbaijan, but only from July 2006 he became a member of the national technical team, assisting Orlando Duarte. In July 2010 he assumed the role of national selector.
This year, the Municipality of Albufeira decided to dedicate the Sport Gala to “Fair Play”.
«Throughout the night, several images and messages will be projected alluding to the theme», reveals the municipality.
This expression was born in 1896, during the first Olympics of the Modern Era, in Athens. Baron de Coubertin, the organizer of the Games, idealized the philosophy through the phrase: “There cannot be a game without fair play. The main objective of life is not victory, but struggle”.
«The concept of fair play is linked to ethics in sports, according to which practitioners should seek to play fairly, not deliberately harming the opponent», concludes the Municipality of Albufeira.
