Friends of Cortelha show medronho distilleries on a walking tour

The 11-kilometre tour will introduce you to medronho distilleries in Serra do Caldeirão

Medronho brandy is the theme of another walking tour of the Association of Friends of Cortelha, which will take place on March 9th, within the scope of of the Aguardente e Honey Fair which will take place in this locality in the municipality of Loulé.

«At this time of year, arbutus brandy producers from Serra do Caldeirão live days of hard work, with “stews” for the distillation of arbutus. After dedicating themselves to harvesting the medronho in November, now is the time to produce and taste the final product, the tasty and much appreciated medronho brandy», according to the tour organizers.

In addition to visiting the distilleries, participants will be able to «be dazzled by the beautiful landscapes that Serra do Caldeirão offers at this time of year». The route will have approximately 11 kilometers, with the departure scheduled for 9:30 am. Enrollments are made at Cortelha, from 08:30 am.

 

 

Along the way, hikers “will be able to observe some elements of the rural heritage and the subsistence activity of the Algarve interior”.

At the end, «they are all treated to a mountain lunch, in the middle of the Aguardente e Mel Fair».

The organization will also provide constant support to participants, with the distribution of water, fruit and cakes.

This activity is organized by the Association of Friends of Cortelha and has the support of the City Council of Loulé and the Parish Council of Salir.
