Algarvia Lucélia Glória represents Portugal in the Special Olympics World Cups

The user of NECI de Lagos will compete in adapted riding

The athlete from Lacobrigense Lucélia Glória will represent Portugal at the World Summer Games of Special Olympics, in the adapted riding modality, between the 8th and the 22nd of March, in Abu Dhabi (Dubai).

Lucélia Glória «has had excellent results in the regional and national competitions and championships in which she has participated», now having the opportunity to represent our country at an international level, according to NECI – Specialized Nucleus for Included Citizens, from Lagos, of which the athlete is a user.

This good performance, adds the institution, results from the athlete's skills and competences, which were developed through «the excellent investment of the Association of Adapted Horseback Riding of Barlavento, in the adapted riding activity that it provides and develops together with the team from the Activities Center NECI Occupational Persons».

The Municipality of Lagos awarded a subsidy of 2500 euros to help in the preparation phase of the Portuguese team, which includes Lucélia Glória.

The preparation of the Portuguese team that will go to Dubai lasted a year, with training and internships at Jamor, Pedras Salgadas and Setúbal. The last stage took place, in February, at Quinta do Paraíso Alto, in Bensafrim, with the Special Olympics Portugal delegation, an initiative carried out in partnership by NECI and the Adapted Horse Riding Association of Barlavento, with the support of the Câmara de Lagos.

Lucélia Glória is one of the users of NECI in Lagos who has stood out nationally in this modality.

In November, both the now international athlete, as well as the lacobrigense Cristina Silva, achieved 1st place in their categories in the National Riding Championship (Special Olympics Portugal), in Braga.

Of the five NECI representatives in this competition, there were two more who achieved good results, namely Vera Alves, from Lagos, who got a 4th place, and Ana Clímaco, from Vila do Bispo, who was in 5th place.
