The Cruise Terminal at the Port of Portimão welcomed more than 36 thousand passengers throughout 2018. Despite the planned works for this port infrastructure are late and the Government admits that there has been a "slip of deadlines", there was a 23% growth in the number of passengers, compared to 2017.

Despite the strong rise in this indicator, fewer cruises stopped at the Port of Portimão, compared to the previous year. In all, 66 ships called in this Algarve city, 5 fewer than in 2017, "but they were, on average, larger, as the total WG [Gross Tonnage] registered a year-on-year variation of 14,7%", according to the Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve (APS).

"In terms of passenger ferry traffic, the resumption of the connection between the Continent and the Autonomous Region of Madeira stood out, with 12 stopovers received from ships coming from the Port of Funchal, which carried a total of 10.607 passengers," he added. the company.

APS stressed that, since taking over the management of the Ports of Faro and Portimão, in 2014, «we saw a 151% growth in the number of passengers received, in what is the only Cruise Terminal in the Algarve».

«In addition to the effort that has been made by the Port Authority in the modernization of the infrastructure and infostructure of Porto and in its commercial promotion, the important work that has been developed by economic and tourist agents in the region, in it concerns the promotion of the city of Portimão and the Algarve brand, which is recognized internationally”, considered the company.

The Port of Portimão is also present, as part of the joint promotion of national ports, «in the biggest international fair of the Cruises industry – Seatrade Cruise Global, which will take place in Miami, during the next month of April».
