Lack of privacy at the facilities motivates protests by workers at the Conservatória de Portimão

Union denounces that planned works do not solve problems of Conservatories

The lack of privacy of the facilities and the obsolete computer equipment that continues to be used are the main reasons for the peaceful demonstration that the workers of the Civil and Land Registry Office of Portimão will stage tomorrow, Tuesday, January 29th, between 8 am and at 9:00 in the morning, "so as not to prejudice the services provided to citizens".

Arménio Maximino, president of the Union of Registry and Notary Workers, will also be at the venue.

The purpose of this demonstration is to make the «public denunciation of the decisions of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Registries and Notaries, IP, which has the connivance of the Ministry of Justice, regarding the terrible working conditions» of those Registry Offices.

According to the Union, "bad decisions were taken regarding the works to be carried out, maintaining the lack of privacy in the service", through the "non-compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation, by maintaining a wrong service model dating from 1999 and it is known as the “fair stand” model».

On the other hand, «the lack of privacy in the service of citizens continues, which leads to the investigation of their private and intimate life, as everyone can hear the conversations that take place in the service, where sensitive personal data is made available and issues that are addressed deserve full reservation'.

After the works, adds the Union, «the waiting room will not be sealed/closed and separated from the service area, which enhances» the lack of privacy.

On the premises, there will also continue to be a lack of a “bathroom for workers”.

In addition, the Conservatória de Portimão, located on Avenida Miguel Bombarda, continues to use “completely obsolete equipment”, namely computers and printers “over 15 years old”.

With all this, they denounce, there is a «mismanagement of public money, given that, with these options for the works, the Conservatories are not complying with the legislation and serving citizens with privacy».

For the Union, this is “a huge failure” and the loss of “an opportunity to do things well”.

But it is not just for the workers that the facilities “do not respect the most elementary health and safety rules”, as the situation also affects users.

Therefore, the vigil that the workers will promote tomorrow, like what they did this morning in Lagos, for similar reasons, is intended to ensure that citizens «have the treatment they deserve, in other words «a Registry with decent conditions for their care, namely with regard to privacy and health and safety conditions».

And this, stresses the Union, can only be achieved with a «closed waiting room separate from service» and «mini-offices at each workstation, to serve citizens with total privacy», thus respecting «their intimate and your personal data'.
