O Walking Festival of the Plum (WFA) walked to Pampilhosa da Serra, last Thursday, to help reforest an area that burned in the great fires that devastated the center of the country in 2017.
This was the way found by QRER – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories, which organizes the Ameixial hiking festival, to help the Walking Weekend – Pampilhosa da Serra Hiking Festival, «which saw some of its most emblematic routes severely affected by the 2017 fires'.
Thus, it was stipulated, even before this year's edition of Walking Festival do Ameixial, that the revenue raised from enrollment in the Algarve hiking festival would be used in this solidarity reforestation action.
On 29 November, part of the 80 Negral Oaks donated by the WFA were planted on a part of the route that links Vila de Pampilhosa da Serra to the Santa Luzia Dam.
«In addition to the involvement and participation of the QRER – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories, the City Council and the forest sappers of Pampilhosa da Serra, the action also included the participation of a group of students from the local Basic School, who prepare several awareness messages placed next to the trees on the theme “Sow an idea for your forest””, according to the Algarve cooperative.
«This initiative made it possible to further strengthen the existing ties of these two events dedicated to walking, and it is expected that in the future more joint promotion actions will be carried out. One of them will be the presence of the Walking Weekend organization at the 7th Edition of the Walking Festival Ameixial, which will take place on the 26th, 27th and 28th of April 2019, in the village of Ameixial, in the municipality of Loulé», concluded QRER.
In 2017, QRER had already promoted a similar action, but on land located in the Reds, a town located in the parish of Ameixial.
