Sines Container Terminal breaks 2017 record

Terminal exceeds the total handled last year, corresponding to 58% of containerized cargo handled in Portugal

The Sines Container Terminal – Terminal XXI handled, until December 12, 1.669.295 TEU, surpassing the registered mark of the previous year, which corresponded to a total of 1.669.057 TEU.

With a year-on-year variation of around 5%, in terms of the volume of TEU handled, Terminal XXI offers 23 regular, weekly and bi-weekly services, connecting the Port of Sines to the main international markets on the five continents.

"In addition to the upward closure scheduled for 2018, the prospects for 2019 are quite positive", stresses the APS — Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve.

In response to the growing demand for the Terminal, and in order to maintain the high levels of operability, at the level of the largest European ports, PSA Sines, the Terminal XXI concessionaire, acquired new handling equipment, which will come into operation in early 2019.

In addition to the 4 RTG (parking cranes), the 10th Wharf gantry, in the Super Post-Panamax category, will also enter into operation, with the capacity to operate the largest ships in commercial operation.
