PSD/Portimão is against the Civil Protection Tax in the county

Fee may be defeated in Parliament by a "negative coalition" between PSD, Bloc and PCP

The PSD of Portimão rejects the Civil Protection Tax and does not want to see this measure applied in the municipality.

In a statement, the PSD recalls that, in the past, it was against the controversial “Municipal Tax for Civil Protection” applied by the City Council of Portimão, in 2014, «however extinct due essentially to the political and social pressure of thousands of people from Portimão so that the executive at that time, with the same leadership as today, would retreat or be forced to retreat from what it applied in 2014 after watching more than 4 people from Portimão sign a petition that brought the matter to the plenary of the Assembly of the Republic ».

According to the Social Democrats, this rate is “nonsense compared to what the Socialist Government of António Costa defends when, distorting the truth, it refers to a country that is more financially unburdened and with a good budget for families”.

According to a news from Público, this Tuesday, November 13th, the application of the rate, at national level, may be rejected in Parliament by PSD, Left Bloc and PCP.

Therefore, the Portimonenses Social Democrats are delighted to «see the national PSD take the lead in this matter and hope that not only the PSD Parliamentary Group, but all benches with seats in the Assembly of the Republic, will have the courage to vote the budget's specialty clearly reject the creation of this new tax».

The PSD says it agrees "with the principle that the decentralization of competences in the municipalities will bring gains in the organization and functioning of some sectors and services of the State", but this cannot be "done at the expense of the Portimonsians and the Portuguese through the creation of new municipal taxes instead of being transferred directly from the State Budget the necessary funds to assume the new commitments proposed to the municipalities».

The PSD/Portimão reveals that it will approach the opposition political parties of Portimão (CDS, BE, PCP and NÓS Cidadãos) to reiterate their rejection of this measure, as well as question Isilda Gomes, mayor and vice-president of the National Association of the Portuguese Municipalities, on the position of the executive from Portimo.
