holder renato rodriguesIt was the citizens and opposition parties that forced the president of the Portimão Chamber to "reduce the Civil Protection Tax", guarantees, in a statement that the Sul Informação had access, the municipality of PSD Portimonense.

"The revocation of the Civil Protection Tax is due to all the people from Portimo who, in one way or another, have put pressure on the President to retreat or be forced to retreat!", stress the Social Democrats.

Helder Renato Rodrigues, president of the Municipality of the PSD of Portimão, explains that «the “Fee”, as it is being charged, is a tax, and the Municipality does not have the power to issue it».

On the other hand, he recalls, «Citizens and the Opposition Political Parties managed to bring this matter up for discussion in the Plenary of the Assembly of the Republic on June 12th», in a petition «which took the number 446\XII\4., signed by 4063 citizens'.

In the context of this discussion, "the Political Parties assumed that the matter was not a competence of the Assembly of the Republic, but of the Local Government or its guardians".

Therefore, in an application sent on June 15 to the Secretary of State for Local Administration, the four PSD deputies elected by the Algarve asked this member of the Government to order “an inquiry, in order to determine the extent to which the citizens' allegations merit merit. that argue the illegality of the Regulation of the Municipal Civil Protection Fee of the Municipality of Portimao and, if this proves to be demonstrated, trigger the legal mechanisms that ensure that the legal sphere of citizens is protected».

That said, the PSD from Portimão considers that the proposal to revoke what it continues to classify as «the Civil Protection “Tax”, by the Portimão City Council “derives from the organization of Citizens and Opposition Parties in “fighting ” for the restoration of legality, in an unfair and authoritarian imposition on the basis of a false assumption that the Fee is included in the PAEL candidacy which, as we all know, was refused by the organs of the Central Power».

The Social Democrats also questioned, in their communiqué, “how could the Municipality of Portimão present a candidacy for the FAM, containing revenue from a “tax”, whose State Secretariat for Local Administration will be investigating its legality at the request of the Deputies of the PSD elected in the Assembly of the Republic».

Yesterday, the Portimão Chamber, with a socialist majority, announced that it will propose the extinction of the controversial Municipal Civil Protection Tax, tax collected in 2014.

Isilda Gomes, president of the autarchy, revealed, at the Chamber meeting this Wednesday, that she will propose to the Executive Committee of the Municipal Support Fund (FAM) the revocation of the Municipal Civil Protection Tax.

The mayor alleges that the "financial adjustments" that the Chamber has been making allow "to propose a relief of this rate to our citizens".
