Faro celebrates 100 years since the end of the First World War with a lecture on Farense fighters

Exhibition and lecture mark Armstice celebrations in Faro

A lecture and a documentary exhibition about the Farense Combatants in the First World War is the way to Faro to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armstice, that is, the end of this world conflict.

Thus, the Archive and Documentation Unit of the Chamber of Faro will promote a documental exhibition, about the Faro fighters, which will be on display, from November 5th to 17th, in the atrium of the António Ramos Rosa Municipal Library.

This exhibition is composed of materials from the Municipal Historical Archives of Faro, Military and Navy History, with a list of combatants from the municipality of Faro who participated in the War.

As part of this commemoration, the researcher Joaquim Vieira Rodrigues will deliver, on the 10th, at 15:30 pm, in the Library's Auditorium, a lecture on the theme of the participation of Faro fighters in this conflict.

Joaquim Vieira Rodrigues holds a PhD in History from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, with the thesis “The Algarve and the Great War: a question of subsistence (1914-1918)”.

In addition to being a professor, he is a researcher at the IHC – Institute of Contemporary History of the same University, being the author of several academic works and a speaker at several conferences.
