The book “Largo do Mercado”, by Anfonso Dias, will be presented next Tuesday, November 20, at 18:30 pm, at the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Municipal Library, in Loulé.
Afonso Dias is a singer, composer and lyricist, poet, actor and theater director, poetry “diizer”. “Largo do Mercado” is his new book of poetry that brings together poems from 2017 and 2018 and will be presented by Patrícia Jesus Palma.
Afonso Dias “militated against the dictatorship, and sang in the 60s and 70s in numerous solo sessions or alongside Zeca Afonso, Francisco Fanhais, Samuel, Pedro Lobo Antunes, Pedro Barroso and many others”, recalls the Câmara de Loulé.
Together with Fausto, José Mário Branco and Tino Flores, he was, in 1974, one of the founders of the GAC – Grupo de Ação Cultural in which he participated in the production and recording of 3 LP's and 8 EP's, and in hundreds of shows between b1974 and 1978. In 1979 he recorded his first solo album – O que vale a pena – with his own songs and poems by Hélia Correia and José Fanha.
He was also a deputy to the Constituent Assembly in 1975/76 and is one of the signatories of the Constitution of the Republic who voted in favor on 2 April 1976; on April 14, 2016, he was awarded the title of Honorary Deputy by the Assembly of the Republic.
He has been singing and saying poetry for about 50 years, in the country and throughout Europe – Germany, Holland and France. He is a member of the Advisory Board of AJA – Associação José Afonso.
