Silves shows “Refugees” at the Town Hall

Frank Kopperschläger's photographic exhibition shows images taken in Berlin

The exhibition “Refugiados”, by photographer Frank Kopperschläger, will be on display at the Town Hall of Silves, between October 19th and November 19th.

The exhibition was prepared to mark the “World Refugee Day”, which is celebrated on June 20, by the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation and will now pass through the municipality of Silvez.

The exhibition, which is promoted by the Youth Sector of the Silves City Council, "seeks to sensitize all who see it to the dramatic situation experienced by all those fleeing war and inhumane conditions in their countries of origin."

Altogether, 16 photographs of the streets of Berlin will be exhibited, where hundreds of refugees were, "abandoned to their fate, without any kind of government support".

According to the Municipality of Silves, “the German population began to support these refugees, bringing them tents, shelter, clothing, food, medicine and other essential goods. Afterwards, a movement of various groups of intellectuals and recreational associations was formed, which sought, through the arts, to give some “breath” to these people, while NGOs created some conditions to provide food for all who were there».

In a third moment, adds the autarchy, "the population started to demonstrate, blockades, concentrations, demanding from the official entities a dignified answer for all those refugees".

These photographs portray some of those moments lived in Berlin.

Admission is free.
