João Lúcio, a walk in the river and much more in the final stretch of “Poesia a Sul”

There are still many poets to listen to and activities to enjoy until Sunday

O international festival “Poetry in the South” is in the final stretch, but still has a lot of poetry (and not only) to offer, until Sunday. A colloquium in homage to João lúcio, the poet featured in this 4th edition of the event, guests from various parts of the country and across borders, a trip through the Ria Formosa and music are some of the activities that the public can still enjoy, in the city of Olhão.

Today, Friday, at 19 pm, is “Hora da Prosa”, at Re-Criativa, on Avenida da República, with Ana Cristina Leonardo. At 00 pm, there is multilingual music and poetry at the Mercados de Olhão, with many Portuguese and foreign guests.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the Sul Sol e Sal gallery opens its doors at 11:00 am, to welcome travel to the Basque Country. Olhão will join Vitória, in this region of northern Spain, to hear the reading of Basque poets at the international festival Poetas en Mayo.

At 11:30 am, the poetry of Cape Verdean Filinto Elísio will be presented, followed by an exhibition of the work of Jorge Villalobos, from Spain. Andreia Arrais and Vasco Prudêncio will talk about João Lúcio, who inspires this year's edition of the festival, before being introduced to the magazines “Espaço do Ser” and “Garanta”, by the publisher Canal Sonora. The initiative ends with a presentation by the publisher Rosa de Porcelana, by Márcia Souto (Brazil/Cape Verde).

In the afternoon, the action moves to Re-creative. The Poetry of José Saramago, by Aula José Saramago (Diego Mesa and Márcio Sousa).

At 17:15 pm, the now renovated Recreativa Velha de Olhão welcomes the one that will be one of the highlights of the event, the colloquium in homage to João Lúcio, on the centenary of his death. Participating in this session will be António Cândido Franco, Jacinto Palma Dias, Fernando Cabrita, Vasco Prudêncio and Vítor Cantinho.

At 19:30 pm, at the same venue, you will hear poetry from Cape Verde, spoken by Filinto Elísio, as well as works by Rafael Ballesteros (Spain) and Maria Sameiro Barroso (Portugal). The session ends with a presentation of Turkish poetry by Metin Cengiz and Muesser Yeniay.

On Sunday, at 10:00 am, the public is invited to board the Caique Bom Sucesso to listen to “Poesia na Ria”. At 13 pm, there is a lunch in tribute and poetic toast to Casimiro de Brito, scheduled for the restaurant Tacho à Mesa. Both initiatives require advance booking.

The 2018 “Poesia a Sul” – which this year integrates the “365Algarve” program – ends with a session in the Cantaloupe and Cais Club bars, in the Mercados de Olhão, scheduled for 15:30 pm, where all invited poets will be present. will feature the presence of Genoveva Faísca, Viviane and Patrícia de Jesus Palma.
