Faro: International workshop wants to help develop EuroVelo1 cycle route

In the Algarve, the project has an extension of 214 kilometers, from Vila Real de Santo António to Sagres, corresponding to the Ecovia do Litoral

The development of tourism sustainability of the EuroVelo1 cycle route is the main objective of the 3rd international workshop of the “Atlantic on Bike” project, which starts this Wednesday, October 17, at the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, in Faro.

“Atlantic On Bike” is an international project that includes partners from the six countries that make up the Eurovelo1 cycle route (Norway, Ireland, United Kingdom, France, Spain and Portugal) and which aims to transform the European route, which is being developed along over 9000 kilometers, in an excellent tourist resource.

In the Algarve, the project has an extension of 214 kilometers, from Vila Real de Santo António to Sagres, corresponding to the Ecovia do Litoral.

The objective is to “achieve benefits resulting from the implementation of a transnational cycle tourism strategy, based on the natural and cultural heritage of Eurovelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route, developing an economically sustainable, environment-friendly, innovative and inclusive European project”.

This “Atlantic On Bike” project is scheduled to last for three years and started in May 2017. The overall budget is 4,8 million euros and the project is 75% co-financed by the Interreg – Atlantic Area Program ( 2014-2020). The project's Portuguese partners are AMAL -Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve and the Algarve Tourism Region. Each of these entities has a budget of 175 thousand euros.
