Matching smaller game and Iberian imperial eagle in debate at the Mértola Hunting Fair

Exclusive to the Iberian Peninsula, the Iberian imperial eagle is one of the most endangered birds of prey in Europe and is among the rarest in the world.

The colloquium “Compatibility of sustainable hunting management of smaller hunting with the Iberian Imperial Eagle” takes place on 26 October, at 10:00 am, in the multipurpose room of the sports pavilion, within the scope of the IX Hunting Fair in Mértola, in an initiative of the project Life Imperial, in partnership with the Municipality of Mértola.

During the morning, Paulo Marques, from the League for the Protection of Nature (LPN), presents the Iberian Imperial Eagle and the LIFE Imperial Project, Nuno Pedroso, from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, presents the study to assess the impact of predators on prey species, while José Osório Severino, game manager, and João Madeira, farmer, testify about the impact of the Imperial Eagle -Iberian in the management of small game hunting in the Vale do Guadiana SPA.

The morning program ends with a debate session on the compatibility of sustainable hunting management of smaller game with the Iberian imperial eagle.

After the lunch break, a demonstration of GNR Poison Detection Dogs and a bird of prey observation session at Achada de S. Sebastião.
