“Algarve Cooking Vacations” wins award at the Travel Food Awards

This was the first edition of the awards

O “Algarve Cooking Vacations” won the “Best Project 2018” award in the “International Brand” category of the Travel Food Awards, whose results were announced this Friday, October 12th.

These awards, organized by the Italian Tourism Press Association (GIST), were presented during the TTG Travel Experience, the main tourism fair for professionals held in Italy.

“Algarve Cooking Vacations” is a pioneering culinary and wine learning program, which aims to create new tourist routes focused on the region's gastronomy and wines, meeting the trends of international demand.

Promoted by the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), the Algarve Tourism Association and Tertúlia Algarvia, the project was distinguished in Italy, one of the fastest growing tourist markets in the Algarve in terms of number of overnight stays until July this year (+25,5 %).

«This recognition comes at the right time, because the Algarve Tourism Region has just presented a study that calls for the emergence of culinary and wine tourism routes in the Algarve. It's really gratifying when we see our work valued by an external and independent entity. It is a team project, of partnerships and with many people involved and, therefore, we are all to be congratulated», says João Fernandes, president of RTA.

This is the first edition of the Travel Food Awards, to which various international gastronomic tourism projects and events have applied. The jury is made up of Italian journalists specializing in gastronomy, who evaluate the projects taking into account their originality, the degree of involvement of local communities, respect for the environment, economic sustainability and communication strategy.

Launched in 2017, “Algarve Cooking Vacations” aims to create culinary and wine vacation programs in the Algarve, through the partnership of several regional agents.

To this end, a study was carried out to understand the market and current trends, with various actions planned, from thematic workshops, the publication of a recipe book and another on Algarve wines, international promotion actions and a digital marketing campaign.

The “Algarve Cooking Vacations” program is co-financed by CRESC Algarve 2020 – Algarve Regional Operational Programme.
