The largest cataplana in the world is in Albufeira and is 4 meters in diameter.

It will be four meters in diameter, six feet tall and can hold more than a ton of food. The largest cataplana in the world, ordered by the City Council of Albufeira, is ready and will be presented on the 15th of September, as part of the “Classic Weekend Marina de Albufeira”.

The play will be premiered this Saturday. «The preparation of the largest cataplana in the world will start at 18pm on Saturday, the 30th, next to the Marina water mirror, with free entry, so that all interested can taste one of the great wonders of our gastronomy», announced the City Council of Albufeira .

To build this giant cataplana, more than 500 kilos of copper were needed, which was handcrafted until it took on the shape of a typical Algarve utensil.

A project that is expected to be arduous and time-consuming, but which was completed in time for the Grand Final of the 7 Maravilhas à Mesa competition, which will take place in Albufeira on the 16th of September. This piece is, moreover, one of the ways in which the Algarve council promotes its table, which will be one of the finalists in the competition promoted by RTP.

The cataplana is one of the dishes proposed by the Council of Albufeira, in addition to being «one of the gastronomic wonders» of the municipality.

After the end of the “Classic Weekend Marina de Albufeira”, «a sporting, recreational and cultural event that takes place between the 14th and 16th of September», and the grand Final of the 7 Maravilhas à Mesa Final, the largest cataplana in the world will be exhibited “in a public space in the city”.
