“AstroFoia” invites you to see the stars and help victims of the Monchique fire

There is also an astronomical picnic and science workshops

The AstroFoia Astronomy Festival, which takes place on 15th September, in Fóia, in Monchique, will collect donations to help the victims of the great fire that devastated that municipality.

The astronomy festival will take place from 17:00 and «intends to promote astronomical observation at the highest point in the Algarve, foster contact between the astronomers community and the Monchique community, in an environment of conviviality, leisure and the promotion of scientific culture» , explains the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, one of the organizers of the initiative.

After the forest fires that devastated the municipality of Monchique, “AstroFoia” includes this year a dimension of solidarity and aid to the community, inviting participants to take a donation to help Monchique, through the Platform Ajuda Monchique.

Several local associations (producers and solidarity projects) that will have their products for sale were also invited to be present.

The III “AstroFoia” will include a picnic before the astronomical observations. Starting at 19:30 pm, the aim is to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge between amateur astronomers, teams from the Ciência Viva Centers and the general public. The meal will be in a sharing format whereby participants are invited to contribute something to eat or drink.

This initiative is promoted by the Ciência Viva Center of Lagos, in partnership with the Ciência Viva Centers of Faro and Tavira and the Astronomy Club of Albufeira.
