Vale do Lobo gains 16 new parking spots for bicycles

The expansion of the network of stations wants to encourage the use of bicycles

Vale do Lobo, in the municipality of Loulé, will have 16 new parking spots for bicycles.

The Municipality of Loulé and the municipal company Infralobo, which manages the first smart resort in the municipality of Loulé, concluded, as part of the European Mobility Week, an operation to increase the parking capacity for bicycles by expanding the network of stations.

In all, Infralobo's intervention area will then have 16 more parking points, with the installation of islands designed by a Portuguese urban design company, accessible to users of Smart Bikes, electric bicycles for shared use, but also to other people who ride their own bicycle.

O The shared-use bicycle system, launched in May this year, integrates 30 electric bicycles arranged in five stations and is already available for residents who want to use this environmentally friendly solution.

According to Carlos Manso, chairman of Infralobo's Board of Directors, with the expansion of the network of stations, this municipal company “intends to encourage the use of bicycles, making journeys more practical, convenient and accessible to a wider range of the resident or visiting population. The goal is for people to favor this means of transport, reducing individual transport in small journeys within Infralobo's intervention area».

These measures follow on from the formal adhesion to the “Commitment for the Bicycle” Movement, signed in 2016, within the scope of the commitment assumed by the Municipality of Loulé to lead actions that encourage the reduction of pollution and environmental protection, appealing to soft mobility.

In January 2015, the Municipality of Loulé began to outline the Municipal Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (EMAAC), as part of the Loulé Adapta project.
