“Traditions” of the Algarve and Croatian folklore and of the Alentejo song animate Santa Bárbara de Nexe

Pedro Mestre will close the show

The show “Traditions” will animate the village of Santa Bárbara de Nexe, in Largo do Rossio, on the 25th of August, from 21 pm.
This event, promoted by the Parish Council, «intends to bring to the public and elevate the most genuine popular culture, from Algarve folklore, to Alentejo sing and viola, passing through Croatian folklore».

Opening this event will be the Children's and Youth Folklore Ranch of Associação Nexense, the house's ranch, which already has 19 years and hundreds of performances in Portugal, Spain and Belgium.

It follows, in partnership with the Folkfaro, Croatia's Zagreb-Markovac Folkloric Ensemble, founded in 1945.

Closing the show is Pedro Mestre, a native of Aldeia da Sete (Castro Verde), who has dedicated his life to traditional Alentejo music, developing several projects in this area as a singer and viola player/builder Campaniça.

Pedro Mestre is the founder/rehearser of choral groups from Alentejo, integrating some of them, namely the “Choral and Ethnographic Group – Os Cardadores” from Sete or the Female Choir Group “As Papoilas” from Corvo. He is also president of the ACA – Associação de Cante Alentejano “Os Cardadores”.

The musician is also part of the Rancho de Cantadores of Aldeia Nova de São Bento and several musical projects at national and international level. Of these, the Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe highlights the “Grupo Viola Campaniça”, the traditional singing group “4uatro ao Sul, the Rastolhice Group, the “Meeting of Violas – Viola Campaniça and Viola Caipira – Pedro Mestre and Chico Lobo ”, the “Les Voix Du 7 Sóis” – Festival Orchestra – “Sete Sóis Sete Luas”, the Campaniça Trio, the Cantadores do Sul and the Grupo de Cante Coral enCantos.
