the folkFaro will bring folklore groups from four continents to the Algarve and Alentejo starting tomorrow, the 18th of August. Until the 26th of August, the Algarve capital is the nerve center of this festival, but the invited groups will also visit Loulé, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel, Albufeira, Tavira and Vidigueira, among other locations.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the festival starts with the traditional Opening Gala, taking place at Teatro das Figuras, at 21 pm. From here, the public can count on «nine intense days, full of shows and countless activities», according to the Chamber of Faro, which supports this event organized by the Folklore Group of Faro.

In this edition, more than 300 participants are expected, including dancers and musicians, who "will show the richness of the popular traditions of their lands".

And there are many countries that will be represented, from the outset Portugal, which will be represented by groups from different regions.

From abroad, arrive the Ensemble Aytugan, from the city of Ufa, Basquíria, the Beijing Dance Academy (Beijing, China), the Ensemble Zagreb-Markovac (Zagreb, Croatia), the Pyramids Folk Group (Cairo, Egypt), the Ritmos Del Tiempo (Surco-Lima, Peru) and the Folklore Group Varenka (Saratov, Russia)

“In addition to these full-time international groups, there will be occasional participation by three other international groups: Panama Canta y Baila (Panama), Group Rioni (Georgia) and Ballet Jammu (Senegal).

From Portugal, in addition to the Folklore Group of Faro – Adult, Children and Cancioneiro - will mark the Dance and Singing Group of the Pioneers of Vendas Novas, the Academic Group of Ribatejanas Dances, the Besclore Dance and Singing Group (Minho), the Figueira Folklore Ranch (Portimão) and the Rancho Folkloric by SB Messines.

These groups will perform every night, between the 19th and 26th of August, on the stage installed in Passeio da Doca, in Baixa de Faro.

«On each of these nights, various foreign groups will act successively, and there will also be room for other artistic expressions with some special participations: Clube de Danças João de Deus and Associação S. Brás Bailando, Afonso Dias e Amigos with “Andanças & Cantorias” , and Sandra Cristo (Hymn of FolkFaro – “United by One Tie”», revealed the municipality.

But the invited groups will also be present in other places, guaranteeing “a decentralized and inclusive programme.

«The FolkFaro it also presents several shows in the parishes of Faro and in the municipalities of Loulé, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel, Albufeira, Tavira and Vidigueira, in a total of 15 locations. Various Folk GroupsFaro will participate in the Moncarapacho and Luz de Tavira festivals, in partnership with local folklore groups», says the Câmara de Faro.

There will also be street entertainment downtown and in the Municipal Market, as well as parades by groups from Pontinha to Passeio da Doca, in Faro, and musical entertainment at “Tertúlia Algarvia” in Vila-Adentro farense.

The social component will be guaranteed by special programs. The folklore will be taken to the elderly of various institutions and the inmates of the Prison, as well as children, at the Library and at Refúgio Aboim Ascensão.
