Sagres School Ship visits Faro from the 5th to the 8th of September

Visit of the most famous Portuguese ship is part of the municipal holiday celebrations

O Sagres School Ship will be at the Commercial Pier of Faro from the 5th to the 8th of September, in what the municipality considers to be “a historic moment”, as “it will be the first visit of this ship to our municipality”.

In an organization of the Portuguese Navy, together with the Chamber of Faro, this event will have the support of the Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve, Turismo de Portugal – Algarve Tourism Region, Fagar, PSP and Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro, being inserted in the commemorations of the City Day of Faro, which takes place on the 7th of September.

Also present at the Commercial Pier of Faro and in the commemorations of the Municipality Day, on the 7th of September, there will be the Caravela da Boa Esperança, a replica of the vessels used by the Portuguese discoverers in the XNUMXth century, owned by the Algarve Tourism Region and a fast inspection boat by the Navy.

With a rich history, the Sagres is the ship most decorated in the Portuguese Navy – Order of Infante D. Henrique (1985), Naval Medal Vasco da Gama (2007), Military Order of Christ (2012) – also boasting several international awards such as the Medal of Merit Tamandaré (Brazil, 2016) and the 1st Class Honor Star (Cape Verde, 2016), having also been distinguished by the Commercial Association of Rio de Janeiro with the Visconde de Mauá Medal (2017).

«The possibility of visiting this ex-libris of the Portuguese Navy and symbol of Portugal will certainly be the delight of all who visit the Commercial Pier in Faro», on the 5th, 6th and 7th of September, a period in which various activities related to nautical activities will also be promoted, such as regattas or baptisms at sea.

There will also be an animation program that will be announced in due course, as part of the commemorations of the Municipality Day.

The municipality sees this visit as «a sign of recognition of the effort that the council has undertaken to reconnect and embrace its maritime aspect, based on existing activities and potential, in order to create a new scientific, tourist and economic dynamic. focused on its marine resources'.

Schedule of visits to the Sagres School Ship:
5th of September – visits from 14 pm to 00 pm and from 19 pm to 00 pm;
6th of September – visits from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, from 14:00 pm to 19:00 pm and from 20:00 pm to 22:00 pm;
7th of September – visits from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 18:30 pm.
