The Intersectorial Coordination Council of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission met this Monday, in Faro, for a «first evaluation and follow-up of the restoration interventions, carried out after the fire that affected the municipalities of Monchique, Portimão and Silves».

This body, chaired by Francisco Serra, which promotes the technical coordination of the execution of central administration policies at a regional scale, «recognized the effort and capacity of all civil protection agents in reducing risks and safeguarding human lives, during the fire-fighting operations”, and expressed its “solidarity with all affected families and companies, in the three municipalities covered by the fire”, says CCDR Algarve.

At this meeting, “the prompt intervention of the Government” was also underlined, in particular by António Costa, prime minister, “determining the rapid survey of damages and losses and stimulating the intervention, already underway, of public services in the areas of Agriculture and Forests, Social Security and Housing, Economy and Tourism and Development and Cohesion».

This intervention allows, according to the CCDR, «a quick action in minimizing the negative impacts on families and local institutions and in restoring the productive potential of the business fabric, in close articulation with the local authorities».

At the meeting, Francisco Serra, president of CCDR Algarve, also highlighted “the high spirit of solidarity readily expressed by AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, Municipal Civil Protection Services and Algarve civil society, providing and sharing means and resources to face the complexity of an occurrence of this dimension, organizing the response and articulating desires to mitigate the suffering of the families and limit the damage”.

Francisco Serra also underlined “the full availability of companies providing essential services, striving to restore normality in the supply of electricity and telephone communications and restoring the guarantees of safe circulation on the road network in Monchique, Portimão and Silves ».
