Archaeological walk in the moonlight connects Salir to the Roman villa of Torrinha

Salir Museological Pole is the meeting point for this walk through the heritage, illuminated by moonlight

A route from Salir to the Torrinha site, in the interior of the county, is the proposal for another archaeological cultural walk under the motto “Património ao Luar”, scheduled for the 25th of August, in an initiative of the Municipal Museum of Loulé.

The meeting point, at 21 pm this Saturday, will be the Salir Museological Pole. The walk, accompanied by an archaeologist and other connoisseurs of the history and history of that village and surroundings, has a length of seven kilometers and a medium difficulty.

Illuminated by moonlight, participants will walk at night and discover various archaeological sites in the Salir valley. On this route, you will discover the place where the prehistoric menhir of Serro das Pedras was discovered, the remains of the Roman period of the villa da Torrinha, to understand the importance of Salir in Islamic times, evident in the Museological Pole, and the site where a funerary inscription was found, as well as seeing walls that have been maintained since medieval times.

All these traces reveal the importance of this agricultural valley, which is still very fertile today, and where millenary paths have passed that link the entire interior of the Algarve and the region to the north and south.

Along the way, hikers will also see a vast ethnographic heritage.

This walk aims to discover Loulé and its rich Cultural Heritage, as part of the activities associated with the archeology exhibition “Loulé: Territories, Memories, Identities”, on display in Lisbon at the National Archeology Museum.

For the walk, the organization advises that you bring water, comfortable shoes, as well as a flashlight and a reflective vest.
