The Câmara de Lagos wants the construction of two new roundabouts on the EN125, the source and the bridge of Odiáxere.

A proposal calling for the creation of these roundabouts was approved at the last meeting of the lacobrigense executive. «Improving the conditions of circulation of road traffic in the town is the objective of this measure that the Lagos municipality intends to see accepted by Infraestruturas de Portugal», reads a press note released by the Chamber.

In the presentation of the matter at a local council meeting, Hugo Pereira, vice-president, "recalled the disturbances generated by the horizontal signaling of the road, namely the continuous line that compromises mobility and affects the economic activity of the area, especially during high season". as well as the daily tasks of the residents who are limited, for example “in access to public and social facilities (schools, nursery, nursing home, parish council, among others) located on the opposite side of the road from the one on which they live”.

In his speech, the mayor also underlined "that there is no certainty as to the date of execution of the southern Odiáxere variant, doubting that it will ever be made, which justifies the presentation of this alternative and more practical proposal, in the sense of its feasibility to shorter term'.

Accordingly, the proposal to relocate the nascent roundabout to the current junction of EN125 and EM534 (access road to Vale da Lama) was approved.

The matter will now be forwarded to Infraestruturas de Portugal, «in view of the possibility of including the execution of this roundabout in the scope of the requalification of the EN125, possibly based on the existing study in the City Council, with possible adjustments».

With regard to the western roundabout, which is being studied by Infraestruturas de Portugal, the Municipality says it is "available" to pay for the work, with the financial contribution from Congelagos, an industrial unit installed in the area that will soon enter production and for which the improvement of accessibility «assumes strategic importance», concludes the municipality.
