PS asks PSD 'what is the fear' of an audit of VRSA Chamber accounts

The PS of Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA) wants to know «after all what is the fear» of those elected by the PSD to the municipal bodies in relation to the audit of the accounts of the Chambers they requested. The Socialists saw the Municipal Assembly reject its proposal, in a vote in which social Democrat José Carlos Barros, the president of this body, had the casting vote.

A situation contested by the PS, taking into account that what was at stake was "an audit on a period in which the current president of the Assembly was vice-president of the Chamber". "It is very doubtful that he could vote, let alone use the casting vote to prevent this initiative, which not only came to enlighten all the inhabitants of the municipality, but also public opinion," accused the socialists.

In the proposal it presented, the PS asked for an audit of the accounts of the two previous mayors, Luís Gomes, from the PSD, and António Murta, from the PS, motivated by the «difficult financial situation in the municipality». The idea was to make Vilarealenses aware of «the reality of the economic and financial situation of the municipality and to find out how it was possible to reach this point», something that this lead «prevented».

Last week, the VRSA PSD had come out publicly accusing the socialists of "a tremendous lack of respect for the rules of democracy" when requesting an audit of the City Council's accounts.

This is because, they recall, the accounts are already audited by «entities such as the Court of Accounts, the General Inspection of Finance, the General Inspection of Local Authorities, the Municipal Support Fund, the Local Economy Support Program and the Official Auditors of Bills".

The Social Democrats argue that the PS “does not know how to live with the truth of the facts and does not trust the institutions that daily audit the accounts of the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, nor in those who democratically chose the PSD to lead and manage the autarchy'.

The PS says that "it is not understandable that the PSD uses all the stratagems to prevent an independent management audit, which is essential to take the camera out of the suffocation situation in which it has been living for some years."

«After all, what is the fear! After all, what will the PSD have to hide when the president of the Municipal Assembly is forced to use his casting vote to prevent the audit from taking place?”, question the socialists.

«The PS does not know the differences between what is an audit of management accounts and a management audit, so, at the whim of the wind, and having realized its error, it suddenly comes, and in a disguised way, to try to change the content of its proposals”, also accused the PSD.
