Three titles of national champion and one of vice-champion were collected by young Algarvian canoeists, in the 3rd and final stage of the National Championship of Hopes, which took place on Saturday, in Vila Nova da Barquinha. The Kayak Clube Castores do Arade (KCCA) was highlighted, with two champions and one runner-up, but Grupo Desportivo de Alcoutim also secured a national title.

Regarding the team from the municipality of Lagoa, Rúben Luís secured the title of national champion in K1 Initiado Men and got the double in K1 Initiado Mulher, with the twins Maria and Isabella Wilkinson securing the top two positions in the stage and in the championship. The sisters from Lagos ended up tied in points, in general, but the title was given to Maria, who won the competition in this 3rd round.

The other title of national champion that came to the Algarve was collected by the duo Joana Ramos and Beatriz Ribeiros, from Grupo Desportivo de Alcoutim, in K2 Cadete Mulher. In the race itself, the two Alcouteneja canoeists secured the 2nd position.

Beavers of Arade Hopes Team

The trip to Vila Nova da Barquinha, in the district of Santarém, and the waters of the Tagus were particularly favorable to the KCCA athletes.

In addition to the gold collected by Maria Wilkinson, who was a little faster than her twin sister, the runner-up in the 2 km race of K1 Initiate Female, Filipe Busel in K1 Initiate A was also the fastest in the race he played.

Rúben Luís was second in the competition he competed in, which did not prevent him from becoming champion, with the beavers having secured another birth medal, won by Guilherme Reis in K1 Infantil “A”.

There were also two bronze medals for Lagoa, collected by Ianis Bebiano in K1 Menor and Inês Luís in K1 Infantil “B”.
