Two turtles will be returned to the sea in the Algarve

Action has a partnership between Zoomarine and the Navy

Two sea turtles will be returned to their natural habitat this Monday, July 30, 12 miles south of Portimão.

This is an action that takes place between 7:45 am and 12:30 pm. The Navy will transport the two reptiles, accompanied by a team of rehabilitators, on the Pegaso rapid inspection boat.

«In order to protect these turtles (Oculus and Oceáne) from possible threats present in the seas and oceans, they will be returned to a place far from the coast», explains the Navy.

There are currently seven species of sea turtles in our oceans, all of which are threatened with extinction. Every summer, Zoomarine returns sea turtles that were undergoing rehabilitation at its Porto D'Abrigo and this year is no exception.

Oculus and Océane were, for about a year, at the Zoomarine rehabilitation centre.

Also on board the vessel will be the writers Isabel Alçada and Ana Maria Magalhães, authors of the “Uma Aventura” collection, who will return the two turtles to the ocean.
