The Municipality of Beja reinforced the coverage of the Wi-Fi network and corrected “some anomalies that came from the past”, such as, for example, the functioning of the Internet in the Municipal Library.

In this way, «it will be possible to access the Internet completely free of charge, in various parts of the city, and for this it will only be necessary to register via email, Google or Facebook, which makes access quick and intuitive. », says the Chamber of Beja.

The locations where the network is in operation are: Largo de S. João (surrounding the Cineteatro Pax Julia), Largo do Lidador, Praça da República, Largo Nossa Senhora da Conceição (surrounding the Regional Museum of Beja), Portas de Mértola (Rua Capitão João Francisco de Sousa and part of Rua de Mértola), Castle, Public Garden, Vista Alegre Park, Mouraria, Camping Park, City Park and Sports Club Bejense.

The network is already being, in phases, put into operation, and the project and implementation follow an application that the Municipality of Beja submitted to the Support Line for Availability of Wi-Fi Networks, implemented by the Government through the Tourism of Portugal.

The project represents a total investment of around 70 thousand euros, and the support granted through the financing is 45 thousand euros.

This is “an important investment in the historic center and in the areas with the greatest influx of tourists, promoting the intelligent management of destinations and positioning tourism as a leader in the development of Smart cities and more sustainable ways of managing cities and their resources, contributing to the improvement of citizens' quality of life and economic development», refers Turismo de Portugal.
