Actor and comedian Manuel Marques is the godfather of Albufeira's candidacy for the contest “7 Maravilhas à Mesa”, in which the municipality is one of the 49 pre-finalists.

Known for his participation in the programs “Donos Disto Tudo”, on RTP, and “Portugalex”, on Antena 1, the actor «has family connections to Albufeira and spends most of his holidays here», says the City Council.

Similar to what happened in the previous year's edition of “7 Wonders – Aldeias de Portugal”, municipalities can be sponsored by a public figure linked to the municipality.

The actor made his comedy debut in “Programa da Maria”, which earned him the invitation to work with Herman José at “Herman SIC”. Since then, he has embraced several projects in television, radio, theater and cinema, in a career that celebrates 16 years.

«With an easy smile and contagious joy, Manuel Marques is part of the cast of the program “Donos Disto Tudo”, which is currently on RTP. The actor is also one of the voices of the “Portugalex” radio program that can be heard daily on Antena 1. Manuel Marques owns a holiday home in Albufeira, where he has family connections, being his maternal grandfather from Paderne», says the Town hall.

Of the 182 municipalities that are candidates for the best table in Portugal, Albufeira is one of the 49 pre-finalists with a table representing gastronomy, wines, olive oil and the county's tourist itinerary, which includes cultural and natural heritage.

The selection was made by a panel of 77 specialists who elected the Albufeira and Olhos de Água table composed of
sea urchins caught on the beaches of the county, by the fish cataplana and oranges. The wines chosen to accompany the meal come from Adega do Cantor, in the parish of Guia, “Vida Nova 2017” rosé and “Onda
New 2014” white. As a tourist itinerary, Albufeira suggests a visit to the freshwater scouting points that sprout from the sandy beach of Olhos d'Água, taking the opportunity to rest at the “Quinta do Mel” agritourism unit, which offers regional products and the tranquility of a country house , walking distance from the beach.

Voting begins on July 22nd and continues until the Gala Final, on September 16th, which will take place in Albufeira.

Until then there will be seven semifinals and Albufeira will participate in Alijó, on 12 August. All the galas will be broadcast live on RTP, with a presentation by the duo Catarina Furtado and José Carlos Malato.

In total, there are eight tables from the Algarve among the 49 pre-finalists.
