The Europe Direct information center at CCDR Algarve presented Europeana, in the context of the commemorations of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, at Fortaleza de Sagres, within the scope of the event «The Libraries» – From the European virtual library to the smallest “end of the world” library.

O European project is a virtual library-museum developed by the countries of the European Union, created in 2008, with the ambition of being the digital platform of the European cultural heritage, through which citizens could access images, text, sound, video and material in 3D from museums, libraries and galleries across Europe.

And it has grown continuously, with more than 52.163.451 works of art, artefacts, books, videos and sounds from all over Europe, more than 3.700 collections from European libraries, archives and museums.

The site can be used by citizens but also by teachers, artists, professionals from cultural institutions and other areas, and much of the material is made available with open licenses so that it can be reused as a basis for other artistic productions.

The platform also wants to be an experimentation base for innovative ideas in user experience and new technologies applied to cultural heritage.

This was another initiative developed within the scope of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, organized by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, in collaboration with the Europe Direct information center hosted at CCDR Algarve, Sagres Library/Book Club, International Association of Paremiology, Tertúlia Socio-Cultural Association of Aljezur and Arquente-Cultural Association, with the aim of highlighting the importance of these physical or virtual places, as a source of knowledge, inspiration and sharing.

Reading Booth, The Power of Proverbs, Readings in the Landscape e momo, of the cycle Evening Concerts, were the remaining proposals of the afternoon program to say, read, converse and sing in Portuguese, paying homage to the Portuguese language in its various expressions, the fifth most spoken in the world, which is also a World Heritage Site.
