Young footballers from Atlético de Madrid, Benfica and Porto compete in “Copa do Guadiana”

“A Copa do Guadiana”, the biggest Iberian youth football tournament, takes place from 25 to 30 June, at the Sports Complex of Vila Real de Santo António, and will count on the presence of Benfica, Porto, Atlético de Madrid and Seville. 

This year, the competition will have around 3500 participants and 184 teams in the 5, 7 and 11 football modalities.

Benfica, Porto, Atlético de Madrid, Real Betis Balompié, Seville and Malaga are some of the Portuguese and Spanish teams that will compete on the field for the victory of this competition, organized in partnership with the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António.

During the tournament, more than 10 people are expected, which will represent an estimated economic impact of 2,5 million euros for the region, an amount that will be distributed by hotels and restaurants, as well as by local businesses. The visit of clubs and families from North and South of the country, as well as from the Azores and Madeira, is awaited.

The games will take place at the Sports Complex of Vila Real de Santo António, Campo Francisco Gomes Socorro and the Sports Complex of Monte Gordo and will take place every day between 8:30 am and 20:30 pm.

Around 80 people are allocated to the event for support and support, namely at the technical level. Throughout the race, the “Guadiana Bus” line will be created to transport thousands of athletes, from 7 to 13 years old, between accommodation and venues for games and ceremonies.

For Conceição Cabrita, president of the City Council of VRSA, “the Guadiana Cup is one of the most important sporting events in the region, as it affects the city and the municipality. It represents a great boost for the Algarve and is already one of the municipality's strategic events».

For the organization of the Guadiana Cup, «this is one of the highlights of the season, having created all the necessary infrastructure for the realization of great football moments, bringing together the best players and clubs of today from different levels of youth football».

The competition's opening ceremony is scheduled for the 26th of June, at 20:30, at the VRSA Sports Complex, with a show of light, color and sound. With the exception of the opening, whose ticket is worth 8 euros, all tournament games are free to enter.
