The Vila Real de Santo António GNR will move to Monte Gordo in 2019, “opening the doors” of the current Territorial Post, so that the PSP can install itself there. The guarantee was given by the office of Eduardo Cabrita, Minister of Internal Administration, in response to a question posed by Paulo Sá, deputy of the PCP, elected by the circle of Faro.

According to Eduardo Cabrita's office, «in order to make the Security Forces' device more operational in the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, the MAI, together with the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, identified land for relocation of the GNR Territorial Post in its area of ​​intervention, thus freeing its current premises for future installation of the PSP Police Station».

In this context, according to the Government, «the Law for the Programming of Installations and Equipment of the Forces and Security Services was guaranteed an investment of 900 thousand euros for the construction of future installations for the Vila Real de Santo António Police Station».

According to the Ministry of Internal Administration, «at the moment, the procedures are underway with a view to preparing the Execution Project for the construction of the new GNR Territorial Post in Monte Gordo, it is foreseen that the GNR will be able to move to these facilities in 2019».

After the transfer from GNR to Monte Gordo “Then, work can begin to adapt the installations of the current GNR post to reinstall the PSP Police Station in Vila Real de Santo António”.

The ministry recalls that, «being aware of the existing conditions in the PSP Police Station in Vila Real de Santo António, an intervention took place at the end of 2016 aimed at replacing the roofs and rehabilitating the support structure».
