The Algarve company Sun Concept, which produces boats powered by solar energy, is one of the finalists of the NOS Innovation Awards, the winner of which will be announced this Thursday, June 28, at a ceremony scheduled for Teatro Thalia, in Lisbon.

These awards, a joint initiative of NOS, Dinheiro Vivo newspaper and TSF radio, aim to reward Portuguese companies, giving recognition and projection to new innovation projects. In all, three projects will be distinguished, one for each category of the competition, namely Large Companies, Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups.

Sun Concept, headquartered in Olhão, is dedicated to the production of electro solar vessels, 100% electric.

“This is further proof of the innovative character of the vessels we create and shows us that we are on the right path to success. Ecological navigation is an innovative way of maintaining the Portuguese naval tradition, allied to the protection of the environment», considered Manuel Costa Braz, Executive Director of Sun Concept.

The responsible for the Algarve company is also happy to be included «in the restricted batch of start ups finalists for this prestigious award», highlighting the importance of «giving more and more value to sustainable projects that protect the environment».

Sun Concept «has as its main objective to produce vessels with the least environmental impact, both in terms of the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and in terms of noise and impact on the banks and seabeds, allowing users of the vessels to spend zero with fuels and avoid the degradation of ecosystems, promoting the harmonization of human, environmental and animal life», according to the company.

"With a technological and industrial base of serial shipbuilding and development, Sun Concept emerged from the environmental and social awareness of a core of investors concerned with environmental degradation on a global scale," he added.

The development of these boats that use solar energy as fuel had already been valid for the Algarve company the 2017 Geeen Projects Award.
