The Algarve company Sun Concept, with the project Sun Concept – Solar Boat Builders, was the winner of the new “Sea” category at the 10th edition of the Green Project Awards, whose prizes were announced today, in Porto.

The company has already thanked the organizers of the award – the Portuguese Environment Agency, Quercus and GCI – for the «recognition of work for a sustainable planet, with renewable energies, and the commitment to young and qualified employment». "In 2018, we will be even better", promises Sun Concept on its Facebook page.

At the beginning of last year, the company had already won the national stage of the “Chivas The Venture” entrepreneurship award.

The GPA awards, whose 10th edition ceremony took place this Friday at Alfândega do Porto, aim to distinguish the most innovative projects in the area of ​​sustainability in Portugal. Awards are given by category, with some special prizes being added.

In this edition, the Jerónimo Martins/GPA Award – Sustainable Research and Development 2017 was awarded to the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, with the ECO-Zement project: Reuse of catalytic cracking residue in fluidized bed from petroleum refining in materials to cement base.

The winner of the Sociedade Ponto Verde/GPA Social Innovation Award was the Ineditapanoplia Club with the “Critical Change” project, a laboratory that develops accessible, efficient and sustainable solutions that help fight housing poverty.

The Honorable Mentions in this area of ​​Social Innovation were awarded to 1000Rostos, Associação Ação Social, with the Vintage for a Cause project, and to BIPP – Inclusion for Disability with the SEMEAR project.

The 2017 GPA also distinguished Pedro Cunha Serra, specialist in water resources, as well as the former chairman of the board of directors of Águas de Portugal, and Filipe Duarte Santos, specialist in the area of ​​Climate Change and chairman of the National Council for the Environment. scope of the Special Career Award for Sustainability, which results from the direct appointment of the Minister of the Environment and the Mayor of Porto.

As for the various aspects of GPA, in the area of ​​“Agriculture”, AsfertGlobal Lda won, with the Kiplant iNmass project, while in the “Sustainable Cities and Mobilities” category, Casas em Movimento was the winner, with the project “Smart Kiosk in Motion ”.

The “Efficient Resource Management” category awarded Prio Biocombustíveis SA. with the project Prio Top Level – Waste to Biofuels, and the company dedicated to the industry awarded Bitclicq, with the project Big Eye – Smart Fishing.

Ocean Alive, with “Mariscar Sem Garbage”, was the winner of the “Mobilization Initiative” category, and the Algarve Sun Concept, with its solar boats, was the winner of the sea category. In the area of ​​tourism, the Neya Lisboa Hotel was awarded.

The Rodrigues de Freitas Basic and Secondary School won the “Young Initiative” category for its Biocomposter project, while the Rio Novo do Príncipe School Group, from Cacia, and the EB 2,3 D. Afonso IV School, Conde de Ourém, received honorable mentions.
