Albufeira, how it was captured by photographer Artur Pastor's lens, can already be seen since Saturday, in the Historical Archives and in the Archeology Museum of this city. The exhibition «Albufeira por Artur Pastor» can be visited until the 16th of December.

This exhibition is "a fair tribute" to the legacy that the late Artur Pastor left to Albufeira, "a land with which he established a very special relationship", according to the Municipality of Albufeirense.

who to visit the exposure, you can count on two distinct experiences, each in its own space. At the Municipal Museum, the 35 photographs, taken in the 40's, 60's and 80's, are under the theme “The Sea and its People”. In this place, it will also be possible to watch the 2014 documentary “The Landscape of Artur Pastor”, directed by Fernando Carrilho.

The images that make up this part of the exhibition capture «the fishing fauna, the maritime spirit of the people of Albufeira and the tourist environment of the time, allowing us to see the hardness and truth of a fishing life and the type of relationship that tourists enjoy. established with the beaches of Albufeira and Algarve, realizing in their photographs the harmony existing in these two realities with such different meanings».

The exhibition center that was installed in the Albufeira Historical Archive is under the theme “Places with History” and has 42 photographs, taken between 1940 and 1990. It also includes copies of the album “Algarve”, by Artur Pastor from 1965 and from catalog of the exhibition “Motivos do Sul”, from 1946. Here, Pastor «captures the urban daily life of Albufeira, over several decades».

The photographs in the exhibition reveal a Albufeira that has long disappeared. In the end, almost seven decades have passed since Artur Pastor captured, for the first time, images of this Algarvean location. Since then, he has never lost his connection to this city, where he bought a house in the 60s.

The opening of the exhibition “Albufeira por Artur Pastor”, which was attended by the photographer's children (Artur and Luís Pastor) and the photographer's wife (Rosalina Pastor), was also very well attended. On Saturday, more than a hundred people were at the Historical Archive to watch the launch of the exhibition and mark the International Day of Archives.

Some of those present “still keep memories of the day-to-day life of Artur Pastor in Albufeira, namely several fishermen who fondly recalled the artist's laughter and good mood”, stressed the municipality. And there was no shortage of one of the most famous models, the then-girl Ália Jacinto, who was portrayed in the 60s, leaning against a wall, on Rua da Igreja Velha.

The exhibition was held as part of a partnership between the Municipality of Albufeira and the Municipal Archive of Lisbon – Núcleo Fotográfico, holder of the photographer's estate since 2001, and has the collaboration of Artur Pastor (Son).
