It will be the first time that “Video Lucem” will come out of a church, but it won't be that taking the magic out of the cine-concert this Wednesday, May 30th, at 21 pm, at Farol of Vila Real de Santo António. The film “Os Faroleiros”, by Maurice Mariaud, shot in Portugal in 1922, to which will be added the music of the Dead Combo. All this on a holiday eve… and with free entry.

Since it was born in 2016, “Video Lucem” has held all sessions in churches in the Algarve. This time it will be different, but not by chance.

«It made perfect sense for the film in question, even because of the theme it addresses, to be shown in a farol. We also felt the need to look for new approaches and new types of spaces», he explained to Sul Informação Carlos Rafael Lopes, director of the Cineclube de Faro, which promotes “Video Lucem”.

The movie “The FaroLeiros” will be shown for the first time in the Algarve in this session. Maurice Mariaud, in addition to being a director, also participates in this film which, "until the 90s, had an almost mythical character".

«The whereabouts of the film was unknown, until a copy was discovered and recovered and restored. So we can see the lights of the faroreaders,” said Carlos Rafael Lopes.

The film is partly rotated in a farothe story itself revolves around a love triangle between two farolandowners and a girl.

"The Farorows"

To set all the movie's adventures to music, the Cineclube de Faro invited Dead Combo, one of the most renowned bands in the Portuguese music scene and who has just released a record.

Tó Trips, one of the band's musicians, speaking to Sul Informação, he said he expected “a beautiful night, in a great setting”.

“We've already set other films to music, but this one is a debut. We've already been watching the film, dividing it, and we're going to have themes from Dead Combo and others more purposely composed for the cine-concert», he added.

Accompanying Tó Trips and Pedro Gonçalves will be Alexandre Frazão – drums and voice, Gui – woodwinds, mellotron and voice and António Quintino – double bass, guitars and mellotron.

For Carlos Rafael Lopes, the band's presence makes “all sense”. «We had to have the Dead Combo. The choice had to do as much with the film as with the very surroundings they create. It was a bet that had to be made,” he added.

The “Video Lucem”, which started in November and went through churches in Faro, Loulé, Martim Longo, Tavira, Ferragudo and Silves, ends with this special session. The balance of the festival, which is supported by "365Algarve", is «positive» with the number of spectators, in the set of sessions, being «around 800».

After this last cine-concert, in which there will be 300 seats and whose opening will be in charge of the Moçoilas, the expectations are that the number will reach «1000 spectators».
