Work has already started to supply water to 28 villages in Castro Marim, the City Council has just announced.

The works begin after the approval of the application presented by the Municipality of Castro Marim (August 2016) for the PO SEUR program (Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources).

The execution of this project allows the supply of water, in quantity and quality, to populations in rural parishes not yet served.

"The intervention allows for the articulation between the high and low slopes, configuring the municipal infrastructure in order to allow an effective connection to the Algarve's Multi-municipal Water Supply Systems", explains the Chamber of Castro Marim.

In total, there are 4 million euros of investment, which means that the domestic water supply reaches 50% of the municipality's population that has not yet been served.

«In addition to developing and improving the living conditions of the resident population, the completion of this project also represents an undisputed enhancement of the interior of the municipality of Castro Marim, working as an attractive factor for new residents and as a lever for the local economy, particularly in the sector of tourism".

The following villages will then be supplied: Portela Alta de Cima, Portela Alta de Baixo, Murteira de Cima, Murteira de Baixo, Sentinel, Eira Grande, Piçarral, Quebradas, Choça Queimada, Casa Branca, Brenhosa and Corujos, in a 1st phase, and later the villages of Magoito, Alcaria da Arraia, Alta Mora, Nora Nova, Nora Velha, Monte das Pereiras, Casa Nova, Monte da Estrada, Pernadeira, Funchosa de Cima, Funchosa de Baixo, Cabacinhos, Valleys, Carobeira, Fernão Gil, Soalheira, Eira Verde, Old House, Corte Pequena and New Houses.

This project was applied to the PO SEUR program for the maximum amount possible under the notice for water supply, the sanitation component being ineligible. It is an investment that can be combined with the interventions carried out and allows for the supply of water to Alta Mora, the western border of the municipality of Castro Marim, in other words, an adduction channel with about 54 kilometers of pipelines.
