This is said by the Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA), the agency responsible for promoting the region's tourism to foreign markets, that «the opportunity to prove this curiosity generated around the destination during its recent participation in the Global Travel Marketplace West, an elite event that brings together travel agents and travel advisors most influential in North America with destinations and suppliers from around the world».

«The North American market is showing a growing interest in discovering new destinations in Europe, as an alternative to the traditional route made up of countries like Spain, France and Italy. In this context, the Algarve is beginning to assert itself as a destination of choice for these visitors», says ATA.

Among the main reasons for the decision to come to the region for a holiday are the beaches and the Algarve's landscapes, the good climate, heritage and gastronomy, together with safety, authenticity and quality offer with a good value. value for money.

During this initiative, which took place in Las Vegas, ATA held 52 individual meetings with some of the best agents and tour operators in the North American market, together with which they disclosed, in detail, the added value and diversity of the offer. of the Algarve.

«The assessment we make of our participation in this event is very positive. We encountered great interest in the Algarve from the professionals we met, who showed willingness and willingness to expand their portfolio of destinations in Europe», explains Dora Coelho, executive director of ATA.

In 2017, the presence of the North American market in the Algarve grew 29,4% compared to the previous year in terms of the number of guests. As for overnight stays in the same period, these increased by 34%, reaching, in absolute values, the number of 167.150 overnight stays in the region.
