Concerts on improbable stages, such as the Palácio Belmarço or the patio of the Seminary of Faro. This is what you can find in another festival "The days of Jazz" which, from 11th to 20th of May, from music to the Algarve capital.

At the opening concert at Teatro das Figuras, on the 11th, at 21 pm, there is a long-awaited meeting, on stage, between one of the most acclaimed Portuguese musicians, Mário Laginha, and the project that he himself saw and made to grow: the Trio de Jazz from Loule. A special meeting of two pianos, to which the rhythm section of the Trio is added.

The Loulé Jazz Trio, composed by António Quintino (double bass), João Coelho (piano) and João Pereira (drums), is the result of a national competition promoted by the Municipality of Loulé and sponsored by the renowned artist Mário Laginha, president of the jury of the contest.

The project's main objectives are «to explore the versatility of styles to interpret and to communicate the language of jazz to an increasingly broad and heterogeneous audience», explains Teatro das Figuras.

The historic Club Farense is associated with the “Os dias do Jazz” festival, with concerts on the 12th and 13th of May, with musicians who work in the region.

On the 12th, Marco Martins Quartet presents, at 21:30 pm, The West Sessions. Aiming to enrich the musical panorama and create new content, this project aims at the collaboration of national and international artists through the language of jazz and improvised music, boosting the composition, public presentation and dating of creations.

On the following day, Sunday, at 18 pm and under the heading “A Glass of Jazz”, Club Farense presents “Zé Eduardo Invites… Ricardo Toscano”. In the words of the unavoidable bassist of the national jazz scene, Toscano is «the young and fiery saxophonist-revelation! I've known him since he was a teenager (he's now 00...) and we've played together a few times, both in never like festivals. It was mandatory to invite Tuscan».

On the 17th of May, Thursday, at 18:30 pm, the recently restored Palácio Belmarço receives an intimate concert by the guitarist duo “Mano a Mano”, the duo formed by the brothers André and Bruno Santos, two guitarists with a vast musical career, mostly in the jazz style, where they are considered two of the most important musicians in the country.

On the 18th, at 21 pm, the festival returns to Teatro das Figuras, with an unmissable concert by Jaques Morelenbaum and his “CelloSambaTrio”, with the special participation of Paula Morelenbaum.

«One of the great singers of Brazil and the excellent cellist, arranger, producer and composer, Paula and Jaques Morelenbaum are deep Bossa Nova connoisseurs, having in their resumes the participation for ten years in the brilliant “Nova Banda” by Antonio Carlos Jobim» , says the Theater of Figures.

On May 20, Sunday at 19pm, the closing concert allows the audience to attend a concert by the quartet that brings together Norberto Lobo (guitar), Ricardo Jacinto (cello), Marco Franco (drums) and Yaw Tembe (trumpet), on the courtyard of the Episcopal Seminary of Faro, in the heart of Vila Adentro. Norberto and his guitar have a history of constant evolution and looking for solutions.

«His career is made up of challenges, in a demand to improve his language and how he communicates with the public. Over more than ten years of career, what he composes on guitar has become progressively free and airy, in a search for clarity and synthesis of his ideas».

This festival is organized by Teatro das Figuras, with the support of the City Council of Faro, from Club Farense, from the Diocese of Algarve dos Vinhos Couteiro-mor, who, for the first time, are associated with this initiative.
