Around 9 buildings of the Central Public Administration, belonging to various Ministries, in an area that covers the districts of Lisbon, Setúbal, Santarém, Portalegre, Évora, Beja and Faro, are hosting the ECO.AP awareness campaign, promoted by ADENE-Agency for Energy, with the motto "Energy has ECO in the Future".

The main purpose of this campaign is to involve the Public Administration in promoting energy efficiency, through a plan of innovative actions that take place throughout the year.

Portugal has pledged to reduce the energy consumption of the Public Administration by 30% by 2020. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary that civil servants and those responsible for public buildings, or those occupied by public entities or bodies, join forces to this mission and implement measures aimed at increasing the levels of energy efficiency in Public Administration buildings.

The ECO.AP Campaign aims to raise awareness and provide stakeholders with tools to support the implementation of energy efficiency in Public Administration buildings, namely the Local Energy Managers, the Senior Managers of public bodies, the General Secretariats of the Ministries and the Qualified Experts of the Building Energy Certification System.

Maria João Coelho, vice-president of the Board of Directors of ADENE – Agency for Energy, explains that, “to achieve the objectives and goals of the Public Administration with regard to energy efficiency, it is necessary to continue investing in a set of support actions to the Local Energy Managers, their Senior Managers and all those who intend to implement energy efficiency measures with a view to reducing consumption and setting an example with the private sector, as well as with all citizens, but also with the intention to reduce the State's charges with the energy bill”.
