The PSD and the PCP were approved by the Assembly of the Republic to recommend proposals to the Government regarding the Ports of the Algarve.

The Communists put to vote three draft resolutions, two of which were approved in full.

The proposal “For the full use of the potential of the Commercial Port of Portimão”, which recommends the rapid advancement of works to improve the port's accessibility and maritime infrastructure, was approved with the PS abstaining and the other parties voted in favor.

The PCP also recommended to the Government «the urgent creation of the Administration of Ports of the Algarve, integrating all commercial, fishing and recreational ports in the Algarve region, endowed with the human, financial and material resources and the appropriate skills to exercise the its mission, within a framework of entirely public management of the whole of the port infrastructures”, which passed with votes in favor of PCP and PEV and abstention of the other parties.

Also approved, but partially, was the draft resolution “For the preservation and enhancement of the Commercial Port of Faro".

In this case, they did not pass points 1 and 2, which called for, respectively, the preservation and enhancement of the Port of Faro in the «part of transport of goods and passengers» and the maintenance of «the entire southern front of the commercial port embankment of Faro affects commercial activity'. These points were rejected with votes against by the PS and abstentions by the PSD and CDS/PP.

Approved were the points that requested the promotion of the use of the Commercial Port of Faro «in the Algarve and adjacent regions, with the business fabric» for the transport of goods and the study of the possibility of this port infrastructure having a tourism and cruise aspect.

The PSD also saw the approval of a draft resolution that recommended the Government «the implementation of the investments foreseen for the requalification, valorization and development of the potential of the Ports of Portimão and Faro and associated activities'.

In the case of the Port of Portimão, the Social Democrats are calling for "urgent support for the works to improve accessibility and planned maritime infrastructure", namely "the improvement of the navigation channel and the enlargement of the basin for ship maneuvers, extending the quay and improving the conditions for receiving passengers at the cruise terminal'.

Em Faro, the PSD recommends that the Government "value and develop recreational boating in Faro, at the Commercial Port of Faro, as well as the recovery of the adjacent area, giving new uses to its infrastructures, promoting the scientific dimension and cruise tourism, also considering a future role reserved for the transport of goods».

It is also requested that 'the necessary investments on the Algarve front be carried out in order to take advantage of the existing market opportunities, improving, creating or enhancing the existing port facilities and ancillary activities, contributing to the economic and social development not only of Portimão and Faro but from the entire Algarve region».
