The Museum of the Sea and Land of Carrapateira, in the municipality of Aljezur, will celebrate its 10th anniversary, on the 1st of May, with several initiatives that include the presentation of the interpretation project for the Pontal da Carrapateira and an Algarve village.

According to the City Council of Aljezur, this day promotes "a journey to the memory of the men and women, farmers and shellfish collectors who were born here."

The celebrations begin at 15 pm, with an intervention by the mayor of Aljezur, followed by the presentation of the Pontal da Carrapateira interpretation project, «which aims to reinforce, with a new approach, the concept of a living museum, enhancing perception that the Pontal da Carrapateira, between cliffs and cliffs, in the heart of the Natural Park of Sudoestes Alentejano and Costa Vicentina, in addition to a territory rich in flora, fauna and a valuable marine ecosystem, is in fact a unique space, which has existed for many centuries. it seduces and attracts all those who visit it».

This is followed by «a cultural and recreational trip to “Rolhar o Maio” which consists of tasting the so-called “saddlebag cakes” and “forgotten”, accompanied by a small glass of brandy, to the sound of the typical Algarve village, in a conviviality open to all , until around 19:00».

Located in the village of Carrapateira, this museum «presents the issue of the insertion of traditional activities in the future of local communities», explains the Aljezurense autarchy.

«Made by the “People of land and sea”, intimately involved in the processes of defining their future, investing in the expansion of their territorial spaces, environmental challenges and the evolution of their mentalities, this museum was jointly designed and built by the municipality. with the population, researchers, museologists and professionals, eager to put contemporary museology at the service of promoting a region», concludes the City Council of Aljezur.
