The Festa da Aleluia, also known as the Florida Torches, will take place in the streets of São Brás de Alportel on Easter Sunday. This is a unique religious manifestation in the country, whose origins date back to the XNUMXth century, and an event that attracts more and more people to this location.

As tradition dictates, on Easter day the streets of the village are decked with carpets of flowers, on the way through which the procession passes, the high point of the celebration. In the procession, the men wield flowery torches, ornaments created with flowers of the time, while shouting the litany “He is risen as I said! Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah”.

On Sunday, the streets will open at 9:30 am, followed at 10:00 am by the Eucharist of the Resurrection. The Hallelujah procession is scheduled for 11:00 am. At 13:00, there is a new Eucharist.

From 15:30 pm, the square of the Igreja Matriz in São Brás de Alportel is the stage for a cultural afternoon, with various initiatives.

In the field of animation, the highlight is the spectacle to be starred by Romana, but also the performances of Rancho Típico Sambrasense and the band “Harmonie des Mineurs”, from Roche La Moliére, France, who will be in this town in the next few days, as part of an exchange with the São Brás de Alportel Philharmonic Band.

The French musical formation, with 29 elements, will also accompany the procession.

The cultural afternoon also includes competitions, namely flower torches and floral games, and a Meeting of Flavors and Crafts.
