The «more than centenary» French philharmonic band “Harmonie des Mineurs”, by Roche La Molière, will be in São Brás between the 29th of March and the 2nd of April, to participate in a musical exchange with the São Brás de Alportel Philharmonic Band.

29 musicians from the French team will participate in the Festa das Torchas Floridas, on April 1st, Easter day, namely in the Alleluia Procession, scheduled for 11:00 am, as part of a band with a total of 60 elements.

The “Harmonie” musicians will also perform a small concert with a French music program, during the afternoon of the same day.

«This trip takes place at the invitation of the Philharmonic Band of São Brás de Alportel, as part of the cultural collaboration with the Municipal Musical Center of Roche La Molière, which began in 2015, when the twinning between the Portuguese and French municipalities began, made official in 2017», according to the direction of the association that promotes the São Brasense philharmonic.

This approximation between the cities of the two countries originated in the work developed by Miguel Dias, a son of São Brás de Alportel who lives and works in Roche La Molière. It was through him that Hervé Freycenon, director of the Center Musical, visited the Algarve village, which allowed a deepening of the relationship.

However, there have already been several visits from both sides, and the next one that involves more musicians.

“Harmonie does not usually carry out processions and, in 160 years of existence, it leaves France for the first time. In addition to the musical component of the visit's program, there is also an official reception in the Town Hall and cultural and gastronomic visits to São Brás de Alportel», concluded the São Brás de Alportel Philharmonic Band.
